چکیده
Quantifying muscle activity during locomotion in water is an emerging area of research. This article discusses the methods for quantifying muscle activity and summarizes key research findings of muscle activity during locomotion in water. The article is focused on comparing muscle activity during locomotion in water and on dry land.

A Biomechanics-Based Model for the Animation of Human Locomotion
The paper presents a model of an articulated figure for use in the animation of human locomotion. This model is an evolution of the standard hierarchical joint-based representation of a human figure, which is widely used in figure animation. Whereas previous models have been based on a simplified mechanics-based view of the joints, our model is based on an anatomical approach. This model uses p...
متن کاملControlling Human-like Locomotion of a Biped by a Biologically Motivated Approach
Controlling biped robots in a human-like way is still in the air in robotics. Due to the existing of shortcomings of technical control methods, researchers began to try to find help from biomechanics, neuroscience, human movement analysis and other biological fields. This paper presents a biologically inspired method of controlling the locomotion of biped robots based on the neurological and bi...
متن کاملMechanics of peristaltic locomotion and role of anchoring.
Limbless crawling is a fundamental form of biological locomotion adopted by a wide variety of species, including the amoeba, earthworm and snake. An interesting question from a biomechanics perspective is how limbless crawlers control their flexible bodies in order to realize directional migration. In this paper, we discuss the simple but instructive problem of peristalsis-like locomotion drive...
متن کاملThe Effect of Spatial and Temporal Parameters on the Energy Expenditure of Orthotic Gait of Paraplegic
Objectives: Although for those spinal cord injury (SCI) patients with paralysis of the legs but not at arms, the primary means of mobility post injury is the manual wheelchair, there are many physiological and psychological advantages to standing and walking, such as improvement in respiratory function, lower limb weight bearing and preventing osteoporosis, pressure sores prevention etc. High m...
متن کاملDynamic analysis of load carriage biomechanics during level walking.
This paper describes an investigation into the biomechanical effects of load carriage dynamics on human locomotion performance. A whole body, inverse dynamics gait model has been developed which uses only kinematic input data to define the gait cycle. To provide input data, three-dimensional gait measurements have been conducted to capture whole body motion while carrying a backpack. A nonlinea...
